Junis,

According to an Amnesty International report in 2008, there were 85,000 neo-Nazis in Russia. According to a preliminary version of the 2010 annual report of Verfassungsschutz (Germany's domestic intelligence services), there were 25,000 right-wing extremists, of whom 5,600 were neo-Nazis, in Germany. How many people were living in Russia in 2008? - probably about 140 million? How many people were living in Germany in 2010? - about 81,799,000. So about 0.03% of people in Germany were right-wing extremists in 2010. In Russia in 2008, about 0.06% of people were neo-Nazis. The percentages are very small indeed! The comparisons are crude - not all right-wing extremists are neo-Nazis - but you get some idea of how much the neo-Nazi threat in Russia has been blown up.

You should read this article from WSWS.org by the way: http://www.wsws.org/articles/2011/dec2011/nazi-d24.shtml
- and then you will realise who's been aiding and abetting neo-Nazi groups in Germany.

Germany also invaded several countries in Europe including Greece, the Baltic States, Belgium, Croatia, Italy and France during World War 2 and these countries also have extremist right-wing and neo-Nazi groups. The United States and Australia weren't invaded by Germany and they also have extremist right-wing and neo-Nazi groups. Even Israel has neo-Nazi groups (most of whom admittedly are associated with Russian immigrants).

With regard to the situation in Chechnya in the 1990s, wasn't it governed by a former Soviet airforce general called Jokhar Dudayev who was married to a Russian woman and who could barely speak the Chechen language? My understanding is that he lacked political nous and his economic policies during the period of so-called independence were laughable and led to Chechnya becoming a paradise for criminal activities. In addition he was backed by Georgia and may have received support from Estonia where he used to live, and possibly also Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine. The possibility that these countries cynically encouraged Dudayev in his stand against Russia shouldn't be discounted. (By the way, they all have memorials dedicated to him according to Wikipedia.) Then of course Yeltsin picked on Chechnya as a way of deflecting the public's attention away from his dismal and chaotic "management" of the Russian economy.

My belief also is that Chechens don't like Wahhabism and regard it as an extreme affront to their traditions. They are traditionally Sufi Muslims of the Naqshbandi rite and their worship revolves around private meetings called zikrs.

Ramzan Kadyrov, the current leader in Chechnya, seems to be building a personal network around himself and this may bring him into conflict with Moscow after presidential elections in March.

Please use punctuation - your "thought flow" is simply unreadable.
Are you sure you are familiar enough with realities of the former Soviet Union to lecture a native? Give me a break...
Jews in Russian empire were very far from "elite" status you attribute to them. Oppressive laws were the main reason they joined Bolsheviks in great numbers. It is true that Jews enjoyed great deal of social equality before Stalin's crackdown in early 50's. From that point on state sponsored antisemitism never left the stage, until the very fall of the Soviet empire.
Speaking of destruction of churches and synagogues... In my native St. Petersburg there were, probably, over a hundred churches, and just ONE synagogue (along with one mosque) Soviet regime left that one standing - what a great care of Jewish interests....

@Alex

Sorry Alex that is just BS.

Despite western revisionist and historian’s propaganda Jews were a hostile elite force within Russia who only masked there anti-Semitism for political reasons as a backlash of the overwhelming Jews numbers in the USSR a typical Jewish strategy among Jewish political movements like we see today with the Neoconservative movement.

During and after the post Soviet revolution stage hundreds of churches were destroyed but not one synagogue.

In her book World on Fire by Amy Chua on how minorities dominate in free market societies when referencing Jewish Oligarch domination of Russia she excuses them by claiming that they are so well assimilated that there Jewishness is not a real factor despite the fact that some if not most are Israeli citizens like Berezovsky and linked to major Jewish organisations.

Is it true that neo-nazi groups are popular in Russia? If that is the case, then Russians should be ashamed of themselves because their country was invaded by genocidal racists from Germany. I have seen a few Youtube videos where it warns that violent racist against non-whites is increasing. It there is also unbelievably pro-Hitler sympathies in Russia.

"It’s truly pathetic and unseemly to compare Russophobia with historical anti-semitism that resulted in pogroms and the Holocaust."

Yeah, its not like Hitler invaded the Soviet Union killing some 22 million people is it? [/sarcasm]

Okay, so, while I enjoy reading articles like this and it is interesting and refreshing to read articles that do not cover Russia from the usual Western standpoints - assessing both viewpoints will probably produce the most realistic perception in the long term - if I may request, could you try toning down the, how should I say it, "cockiness" a little? : D Well, maybe cockiness is the wrong word, but throughout this entire article (which, I reiterate, I enjoyed) for example, I felt a sense of slight arrogance and a tendency to... ah well, a lot of it just sounded like "You're wrong, you morons and idiots and maybe YOU should think about what you're doing instead of Russia!". I'm not saying that this may not be true but it would actually be even more fascinating to read this kind of stuff if the obvious Russian bias didn't shine through (I'm not sure whether or not you have admitted to being biased, but whether or not you do and are willing to admit it, you are - not an insult, by the way : D).

An article debunking common myths about the Russian Federation in a way that doesn't seemingly try to rub the general being wrong-ness in my face would be much appreciated. For the time being, this was fairly enjoyable too.

BS. Assimilation of Jews in Russia started right after revolution and progressed a great deal during Soviet times. Most of my Jewish friends come from mixed families and some also married gentiles. It did not prevent them from moving to Israel with all their non-Jewish family members and live there happily ever after. Remember, the last huge wave of migration was heavily motivated by economic reasons. Who ever had a chance to leave Russia IN ANY DIRECTION, did not think twice.
