Have heard a sex joke which was related to Russian communism times:

- So how is Russian (Soviet) sex looking like?
- Well… Sasha is undressing (means dismantling) a tractor.

There is a literature on sex in Russia. It’s small and most of it deals with the later imperial and early Soviet periods because there are more sources. But on early Russia, I suggest Sex and Society in the World of the Orthodox Slavs, 900-1700 (Cornell University Press, 1989)

So are I only know of one article on smells.
