Is there any way to get the 1989 and 2002 Census data for Russia?
Is there any way to get the 1989 and 2002 Census data for Russia?
Official site of 2002 Census with detailed stats from older censuses. This is an English-language version.
Here is Demoscope's extensive demographic database for many countries.
I also highly recommend the site Mortality.org (you need to get an account to view the data) which has very detailed records on mortality statistics for all the major developed countries, including Russia. In some cases they stretch all the way back to the 19th century!
Finally, you can check out the Wiki articles on the 1989 Soviet Census and 2002 Russian Census.
Hope that helps.
Exactly what I was looking for an ethnic compositional breakdown of population in Russia between the 89 and 2002 census. Thank you.

I am suprised actually how many ethnic groups there are in Russia. I thoought there were just over 50 but it is more than double that at 182.
It is a wonder how Russia didn't have mass riots and revolts like in the US (with the exception of the Chechen war) like the LA riot or the growing white militia movement of the early 90's although events like Rodney King and Randy Weaver by US authorities brought these social movements to the forefront.
